The Lord, He Is God

Text: Deuteronomy 4:35
Introduction:
  I. We are living in a day and age when many people do not 
     believe that there is a God.
 II. There is no other reasonable explanation for the 
     origin of the world than that there is a Supreme Being 
     who created it.
     A. The order of the universe.
     B. The human body.
     C. Etc.,
     D. Since there is a Supreme Being, it is reasonable 
        for Him to reveal Himself in a book.
III. Let us notice, today, some things this Book reveals 
     about Him.
Body:
  I. The Scriptures teaches that there is one God.
     A. There is one God.
        1. Text (Deuteronomy 4:35)
        2. Isaiah 44:6, 8ff
     B. There is three persons or beings in this one God.
        1. “Elohiym’ – Plural of 433 (OT:433 - 'elowahh 
           …a deity or the Deity:)… Strong
        2. Scriptures:
           a. Deuteronomy 4:35
           b. Isaiah 4:6
           c. Genesis 1:26
        3. Matthew 28:19
Water - Ice - Steam compared to God the Father - Son - Holy Spirit
 II. The characteristics of the One God.
     A. He is eternal.
        1. Psalms 90:2
        2. 1 Timothy 1:16-17
     B. He is immutable.
        1. Whose essential nature is unchangeable.
        2. Scriptures:
           a. Hebrews 13:8
           b. James 1:17
           c. Malachi 3:6
     C. He is omnipotent.
        1. Possessing all power.
        2. Almighty
           a. 2 Corinthians 6:18
           b. Revelation 1:8; 4:8
        3. Other Scriptures:
           a. Genesis 18:14
           b. Jeremiah 32:17
           c. Matthew 19:26
     D. He is omnipresent.
        1. “That is, his immensity pervades the universe, 
           and filleth all things.” Burns
        2. All present
        3. Scriptures:
           a. Jeremiah 23:24
           b. Psalm 139:7-12
        4. The story of a father and son in a cornfield 
           (not their own).  The father was going to steal 
           some corn and looked all around.  The son said: 
           “You forgot to look up.”
     E. God is omniscient.
        1. Having total knowledge; knowing all things.
        2. Scriptures:
           a. Psalm 139:6
           b. Isaiah 55:8-9
           c. 1 Corinthians 1:25
III. The response that this should result in.
     A. The context of the text.
        1. All the things God has done and will do for 
           them.
        2. Deuteronomy 4:40
        3. Deuteronomy 5:6-9
     B. The same is true in the New Testament.
        1. Matthew 6:33
        2. Galatians 5:20
     C. Anything we place before God becomes a god (idol) 
        for us.
        1. Colossians 3:5; Ephesians 5:5
        2. “Covetousness”
           a. “lit., a desire to have more…” Vine’s
           b. “greedy desire to have more.” Thayer
        3. Some things we may place before God.
           a. Money
           b. Pleasure
           c. Power
           d. Fame
