Does Jesus Live Here?
Introduction:
  I. Woman who responded to the knocking at the door, only 
     to meet a man with a Bible who asked, “Does Jesus 
     live here?”
     A. Haunted her all day.
     B. Not – “Are you names on a church roll? or “Do you 
        regularly attend worship periods of the church?”
     C. Does Jesus live here?  The above two questions 
        could be answered affirmatively, but would be no 
        proof that Jesus lives in the home.
 II. Many during the personal ministry of Christ on earth 
     were fortunate to have Jesus as a guest in their home.
     A. Jesus entered some homes because of a need of the 
        of salvation within the home.  Luke 19:5, 9 
        (Zacchaeus)
     B. He entered other homes because of a need for 
        teaching and pointing out sin.  Luke 7:36-50; 14.
     C. But there were some homes into which Jesus went 
        just because He loved to be in the home – home of 
        Mary, Martha, and Lazarus – John 11:5.
III. Today, Jesus does not walk personally on earth, but 
     Jesus will live at your house, if your home is what it 
     ought to be.
 IV. In lesson, we will discuss kind of home Jesus will 
     live in. 
Body:
  I. Jesus lives in the home that is conducive to purity of 
     heart.
     A. Proverbs 4:23-27; Matthew 5:8.
     B. People should seriously ask themselves – “Is there 
        anything that takes place in our home that could 
        corrupt the hearts of our family?”
        1. Magazines?
        2. T. V. programs? Do you turn it off when 
           suggestive scenes that stir the lewd passion of 
           mind come on?  “Garbage in, Garbage out.” Psalms 
           1:1.
        3. Radio?
        4. Suggestive records?
        5. Books?
        6. Immodesty?
     C. Plenty of exposure to such things outside the home:
        1. On the streets.
        2. In the schools.
        3. Cannot be entirely avoided, and it might be that 
           our boy or girl some day will become corrupted 
           in heart and life, but God forbid that he or she 
           point to something in the home.
    
 II. Jesus lives in the home that is spiritually inclined.
     A. Deuteronomy 6:6-9; Luke 10:38-42; 2 Timothy 1:5; 
        3:14-15.
     B. Make one more plea in this series of lessons for a 
        family devotional period in our homes.
     C. I know of the problems, but confident some time can 
        be found.
     D. Biggest need in our nation – Not greater arms, Not 
        greater space exploration – but a return to the 
        family alter.
III. Jesus lives in the home that is characterized by love.
     A. Proverbs 15:17.
     B. Let every husband, every wife, every parent, every 
        child examine himself in the following 
        characteristics of love 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 – 
        Qualities seen in contrast in the father and the 
        elder brother of Luke 15.

        And smiles for the sometime guest,
        But oft for our own
        The bitter tone,

 IV. Jesus lives in a home where there is respect for God’s 
     order of authority.
     A. Husband – the head, wife – in subjection.
     B. Husband loves wife, thus considerate and unselfish. 
        Ephesians 5:22-25.
     C. Children in obedience to parents.  Ephesians 6:1-2.
Conclusion: The introduction to lesson #1:
Important to make home what it ought to be:
1. Future of the nation and world rests largely upon the 
   home.
2. Future of the church rests largely upon the home.
3. Our present happiness is dependent on the stability of 
   the home.
4. Activities and attitudes in the home is important to the 
   eternal salvation of our children and ourselves.
