THE CURSE OF SIN

Text: Genesis 3:1-6.
Introduction:
I.    Today, we are starting a series of lessons on the five key passages 
      of the Old  Testament.  These passages will help one to have a better 
      understanding of the Old Testament.
II.  After, man was created; he was in fellowship with God.  GOD & MAN.
III. When man sinned, this fellowship between God and man was broken.
      A. Genesis 3:8-10.
      B. GOD / MAN
IV. Because of man's sin, man lives in a cursed world.
      A. Scriptures.
         1. Genesis 3:14, 17-19.
         2. Genesis 4:11, 16.
         3. The flood.
      B. Definition of curse.
         1. Strong - arar - to execrate: -x bitterly curse.
         2. Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament - It will be observed 
            that the majority of "curse" says with arar fall into one of 3 
            general categories: (1)the declaration of punishments (Genesis 
            3:14, 17)…
         3. Wilson - to curse, mostly as to its effect; but also to wish or 
             speak evil of anyone.
BODY:
I.   Sin causes death.
     A. Definition of death - Separation.  James 2:26.
     B. Separation of man from God.
        1. Romans 6:23.
        2. Genesis 2:17.
        3. They were separated from the Garden of Eden.
        4. And all the blessings that He had prepared for them.
     C. Separation of man's spirit from his body.
        1. Genesis 3:22-24.
        2. Genesis 5.
           a. Point of the genealogy is not how long they lived but that 
              they died.
           b. Only genealogy where it states that they died.
II.  Sin separates man from his fellowman.
      A. Best example of what I mean is Cain and Abel. Genesis 4.
      B. Sin is like a cancer.  (Lamech - Genesis 4:23).
III. Sin brings about social disruption.
      A. The tower of Babel.
         1. Genesis 11:1-6.
         2. How?
            a. Genesis 11:6-8.
            b. The changing of their languages.
      B. What breeds distrust today?
          1. One thing is the different languages.
          2. The situation in Miami between the Cubans and Americans.
IV.  Sin separates man from his environment.
       A. Genesis 1:26, 28-31.  (God didn't design earth for earthquakes, 
          floods, etc.)
       B. Genesis 3:17f.
       C. The flood. (Genesis 6).
V.   Sin is universal.
       A. Everyone is subject to the consequences of sin.
       B. Example of the flood.  Genesis 6:5-8, 11-13.
VI.  Sin is recurrent.
       A. It keeps coming back.
       B. Example of Noah.
          1. You would think that after the flood, one would not sin.
          2. However, Genesis 9:21-22.
      C. There is a parallel between this and with our life after 
         baptism.  (How quickly we sin after we are baptized.)
