Watch Thou in All Things

Text: 2 Timothy 4:5
Introduction:
  I. Great blessing and honor to be a Christian. 1 Peter 4:12-16
 II. Behold what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us 
     that we should be called the Sons of God.
III. Christians, like Timothy, are to watch.
 IV. Watch – nepho - "to abstain from wine," is used 
     metaphorically of moral "alertness," and translated "to 
     watch," in the KJV of 2 Tim 4:5. See SOBER.  (Vine’s)
  V. No matter how strong, holy, wise, or how bold we may be, 
     there still remains a great need for watching.
 VI. Someone has said “Satan has a restless energy.” 1 Peter 5:8
Body:
 I. Great men of God have dropped their guard and were overcome.
    A. Samson
       1. The strongest man in the Bible. Judges 13 – 16
       2. He was betrayed and deceived by Delilah. Judges 16:17
    B. David
       1. He was classed as the holiest.
       2. Yet, he was ensnared by a beautiful woman. 2 Samuel 
          11:2-5
    C. Solomon
       1. The wisest man.
       2. Yet, Solomon was deceived and his heart turned from 
          God. 1 Kings 11:4
    D. Peter
       1. A very bold and strong man.
       2. Yet, he denied Christ. Matthew 26:34-75
II. Watch Thou in All Things.
    A. Watch our disposition or attitude in heart.
       1. Lord looks upon the heart. 1 Samuel 16:7
       2. David, a man after God’s own heart.  Why?
          a. 1 Samuel 13:13-14
          b. Acts 13:22
       3. Ezra – Prepared his heart to seek the law. Ezra 7:10
    B. Watch our thoughts.
       1. As a man thinks in his heart, so is he.
       2. Proverbs 4:23; Matthew 15:19
       3. Philippians 4:8
       4. God will judge our secrets in that day.
          a. Romans 2:16
          b. 1 Corinthians 4:5
    C. Watch our words.
       1. Words and actions serve as windows to our soul. 
          Matthew 12:34
       2. Matthew 12:36-37
    D. Watch our tongues – James 3:5-10.
    E. Watch our habits.
       1. There are many bad habits that can mar our character.
    F. Watch that we use our ability.
       1. Talents given according to ability. Matthew 25:14-30
    G. Watch how we walk – Colossians 2:6
    H. Watch where we go.
       1. Many places where a Christians has no business going. 
          Lose influence.
    I. Watch our company. 1 Corinthians 15:33
Conclusion:
  I. Watch for His coming. Matthew 24:42; 25:13
 II. Blessed is the man whom the Lord finds watching. Luke 1:35-
     40
III. Blessed is he that watches. Revelation 16:15
