Proposition:
"Resolved that the Scriptures teach that the Law did not exist before it
was given to Moses at the time of their gathering at Mt. Sinai after the exodus
from Egypt, that the Law was nailed to the cross when Jesus Christ was
crucified, and that the Law is no longer to be kept by God's people."
Definition of Proposition:
- By "The Scriptures" I mean both Old and New Testaments, the 66
books of the Bible.
- By "Teach" I mean sets forth or declares to be so.
- By "The Law" I mean the Law or Covenant that God gave to Israel
through Moses at Mt. Sinai after the children of Israel had been delivered
from Egyptian bondage.
- By "The Law Was Nailed to the Cross" I mean simply what Paul
meant in Colossians 2:14 when he said, "Blotting out the handwriting of
ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of
the way, nailing it to his cross."
- By "The Law is No Longer to be Kept By God's People" I mean that
the law given by God through Moses is no longer God's binding law for His
people. I mean that the law given by God through Moses has been taken
out of the way, blotted out, ahs been superseded by the New Covenant which
is binding and to be observed or kept by people today; As the Apostle says
in Hebrews 1:1-2 "God has spoken to us today by His Son."
What Must I Do To Prove My Proposition?
- I must show that the law or covenant which God gave through Moses on Mt.
Sinai had not been given or was not God's law to be observed before being
given through Moses. This is not difficult to prove for those who
believe the Bible for Moses simply says it.
Deuteronomy 5:1-6 "And Moses called all Israel, and said unto them, Hear, O Israel, the statutes and judgments which I speak in your ears this day, that ye may learn them, and keep, and do them.
The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day.
The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire,
(I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying,
I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage."
Thus Moses Proves the First Part of My Proposition.
- I must show that the law was nailed to the cross when Jesus Christ was
crucified. This I have already done in my definition of terms from
Colossians 2:14. But again, Paul states "Blotting out the
handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and
took it out of the way, Nailing It To His Cross." Thus
Paul Proves That Part of My Proposition.
In Ephesians 2:14-15 Paul states, "For he is our peace, who hath
made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition
between us, having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of
commandments contained in ordinances; For to make in himself of twain
one new man, so making peace."
Obviously the handwriting of ordinances that were blotted out by
being nailed to His cross was the Law of Commandments Contained In
Ordinances which were Abolished In His Flesh or His body
crucified on the cross
- I must show that the law is no longer to be kept by God's People. In
Hebrews 1:1-2 the Apostle states, "God, who at sundry times and in
divers manners spake in Times Past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath
In These Last Days Spoken Unto Us By His Son."
In John 12:48-50 Jesus said, "He That Rejected Me, And Receiveth Not
My Words, Hath One That Judgeth Him: The Word That I Have Spoken, The Same
Shall Judge Him In the Last Day. For I have not spoken of myself;
but the Father which sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say,
and what I should speak. And I know that his commandment is life everlasting:
whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I
speak."
This passage shows (1) that God gave Christ His Message. (2) That Christ ahs
spoken that which the Father gave Him to speak, and, (3) That the words
spoken by Christ will be the standard of Judgment in the last day.
Again in Deuteronomy 18:17-19 Moses himself said, "And the Lord said unto
me, They have well spoken that which they have spoken. I will
raise them up a Prophet from among their brethren, like unto thee, and will
put my words in his mouth; and he shall speak unto them all that I shall
command him. And it shall come to pass, that whosoever will not
hearken unto my words which He shall speak in my name, I will require it of
him."
In Acts 3"22-26 The Apostle Peter quotes this prophecy by Moses and
applies its fulfillment to Jesus Christ. God will hold us accountable
in the judgment if we refuse to do His Will as revealed through Jesus
Christ.
If fact God Himself said of Christ, "This is my beloved SON, in whom I
am well pleased; Hear Ye Him." Matthew 17:5
Peter further says of Christ, "Neither is there salvation in any other;
for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must
be saved."
Yet My Opponent Wants to go Back to Another. Back to Moses' Law Which
Cannot Save.
Every part of my proposition has been abundantly proven already.
If I were to stop now, my proposition stands proven from the Scriptures and
there is not one thing that my opponent can do in an attempt to show
otherwise except to either deny these plain passages of Scripture or else
pervert them. It is my fervent prayer that he will do neither, but
will acknowledge the truthfulness of these Scriptures and Hence the
Scripturalness of my proposition.
But we are not through. In fact we have hardly begun. So look
again.
