Why Was the Law Given?

  1. Because of transgressions. Galatians 3:19
  2. That they might know sin. Romans 3:20; 7:7
  3. That they "Offence Might Abound". Romans 5:20; 7:13
  4. To serve as an instrument whereby God fulfilled His earthly promises to Abraham.  Genesis 12:2; 15:1-6; Joshua 11:23; 21:43-45; 23:14-16; Nehemiah 9:8
  5. To serve as a middle wall of partition between Jews and Gentiles to keep the seed line pure.  Ephesians 2:13-16
  6. To serve as a schoolmaster to bring us to Christ. Galatians 3:24
