#67: Jesus Christ is still the same today, as He was yesterday, and shall
be forever. Hebrews 13:8
Argument:
1. Jesus Christ kept the Sabbath.
2.Therefore, the Sabbath is still binding today.
But:
- Jesus Christ also kept the Passover in Jerusalem. Matthew 26:17-18; Luke
2:41-42; 22:7-15
- Jesus was circumcised. Luke 2:21
- Jesus was taken to Jerusalem to be presented to the Lord as it was written
in the Law of the Lord. Luke 2:22-23
- The sacrifice of a pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons, offered.
Luke 2:24
- A feast of the Jews was observed in Jerusalem. John 5:1
- Jesus commanded compliance with the Law of Moses concerning the offerings
for the man who had been cleansed of leprosy. Luke 5:14; Matthew 8:1-4
- Jesus, commanded obedience to what the scribes and the Pharisees, who sat
in Moses seat, commanded. Matthew 23:2-3
Therefore, on the basis of my opponents argument, all of these are still
binding today.
What proves to much proves nothing.
Chart #68 The Catholics Gave Us Sunday Worship - or the Sunday Sabbath
- The first day of the week is not the Sabbath.
- It is the day on which Christians are to eat the Lord's Supper.
- It is a day of worship, not necessarily a day of rest.
- Neither rest nor work should be allowed to interfere with a Christian's
worship on the first day of the week.
- We meet to eat the Lord's Supper by the authority of the Scriptures,
and not by the authority of any church.
- Christians were eating the Lord's Supper on the first day of the week
several hundred years before the Roman Catholic church came into existence.
- I challenge my opponent to furnish even one word of Bible authority for
eating the Lord's Supper on Saturday.
- Of course, I understand his position to be that the Lord's Supper was not
observed on the Sabbath, but is to be observed on the night of the Passover
in connection with the washing of feet.
A. He has a proposition signed to affirmed that.
B. So he connects the Lord's Supper to those feasts which belong to that
part of the Law of Moses which he believes was done away in Christ.
Chart #69 Acts 7:38
Argument:
- This Law was not for the "Jews Only" - But was also for us - who
are Christians. Acts 7:38
- This Law given to Moses and our Fathers to give unto us.
But:
- The context shows that the "us" to whom Moses was to give the
lively Oracles was the to whom Stephen spoke.
- Stephen here regards himself as being one of them. As a Jew he
himself had received the living Oracles and lived by them before becoming a
Christian.
- In Romans 3:1-2 Paul shows that the Oracles of God had been committed to
the Jews.
- The Oracles (Law) were added because of transgression "till" the
seed should come to whom the promises were made. Galatians 3:19
- Verse 16 shows that the promised seed was Christ.
- The Oracles (Law) were a school master to bring us to Christ. Galatians
3:24-25
- But after Christ (Faith) came we are no longer under the schoolmaster.
(Oracles, Law)
- God has spoken to us today through His Son. Hebrews 1:1-2
But Again:
- My opponent says that these lively Oracles were given to Moses to give to
us.
- But my opponent believes that the law given through Moses was the
one nailed to the cross. Colossians 2:14
- Hence, he has Moses giving us that which he believes was done away.
