Chart #53

On Mt. Sinai God Simply Reinstated the Sabbath.

Argument:

  1. The generation of Israelites which Moses led out of Egypt had received no religious instruction or training.
  2. Israel had forgotten the Sabbath while in Egypt.
  3. God simply calls Israel back to the keeping of the Sabbath, etc., which they had neglected.

But:

  1. What about the parents of Moses?
  2. Moses was taught of God while in Pharaoh's house. Exodus 2:5-10; Hebrews 11:23-27
  3. Where is the passage which says that Israel had forgotten the Sabbath while in bondage.

My opponent assumes something he cannot prove.

Chart #54 The Giving of the Manna. Exodus 16:4-5

Argument:

  1. Manna and quail were given on the Sabbath.
  2. Verses 11 -13, between the two evenings - At dusk - immediately after sunset on that Sabbath God sent the quails for food, and next morning the manna was on the ground.

But:

  1. This contradicts verses 22 - 23.
  2. This contradicts verses 25 - 26.
  3. If God had given the manna and quail on the Sabbath day, He would have caused them to violate the Sabbath Day if it had been in existence.
  4. If God gave these on the Sabbath Day, then He did that which He said would not be done.

Chart #55

Exodus 16:29 - "The Eternal hath given you the Sabbath."

Argument: Hence the Sabbath was given before the Sinaitic Covenant.

But:

  1. This is in anticipation of the Sabbath which was about to be revealed and made binding on Mt. Sinai.
  2. The Lord's Supper an example. Matthew 26:28.
  3. If they had been keeping the Sabbath command for 2500 years, then their continued keeping it would not have proved anything which had not already been proven or disproven.

Chart #56 Who Gave the Law?

Argument:

  1. It was God - Not Moses - who gave the 10 commandment Law. Exodus 19:16; Deuteronomy 6:1
  2. It was not Moses' voice which delivered God's law.
  3. It was the voice of God.

But:

  1. While this is most certainly true of the 10 Commandments, it is equally true that God gave all of the Commandments, Statutes, and Judgments. Deuteronomy 5:31-33; 6:1, 20-24
  2. These were all given together, at Mt. Sinai, after Egyptian bondage - No Two Separate Laws.
  3. God also gave the Gospel through Christ.
    A. Christ the prophet like unto Moses. Deuteronomy 18:18; Acts 3:22-23
    B. God has spoken to us through Christ. Hebrews 1:1-2
    C. Christ testified the Father gave Him the message. John 14:10, 24
  4. The Holy Spirit was promised to:
    A. Guide the disciples into all truth. John 16:13
    B. Teach the disciples all things. John 14:26
    C. Bring to the disciples "Remembrance, Whatsoever I have said unto you." John 14:26
    D. "Show them things to come" John 16:13
    E. The Apostles spoke as the Holy Spirit gave them utterance. Acts 2:4
  5. Those who hear the disciples, hear Christ. Luke 10:16

Therefore, we have "God's message for man today spoken and revealed through Christ and the Holy Spirit.
