Chart #46

The 10 Commandments Were Not Given to the Fathers - Deuteronomy 5:1-2,

  1. Moses said, "The Lord our God made a covenant with us in Horeb."
    A. This covenant included the 10 commandments. vs. 6-21
    B. This included the Sabbath command. vs. 12-15; Exodus 20:8-11
  2. Moses said, "The Lord made not this covenant with our fathers." vs. 3
    A. (The Patriarchs - Adam, Abel, Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Issac,
         Jacob, etc.)
    B. The Lord made this covenant with those who were "here alive this
         day."
  3. Did Moses know what he was talking about?
  4. Does my opponent know more about this than Moses?
  5. Who are you going to believe?  My opponent? Or, Moses?
  6. That the Sabbath was not given and was not observed for approximately 2500 years after the creation cannot be successfully denied.
Chart #47 No Other Day is a Memorial and Reminder of Creation.
1. I challenge my opponent to give chapter and verse which
states or implies that the Sabbath is a memorial of creation.
   A. Even if it were a memorial of creation (which it isn’t)
that would not be the same as saying that it would stand
      as long as creation stands.
2. The Sabbath is a memorial of God’s rest.
   A. God sanctified the seventh day “because that in it He
“had” rested from all His work which God created and
      made.” Genesis 2:3
   B. God created; “and rested the seventh day: wherefore the
Lord blessed the Sabbath day, and hallowed it. Exodus
      20:11
3. It was a memorial to Israel of the fact that in Egypt they
had no rest and now God has given them rest. Deuteronomy 5:15
4. Again, if it were a memorial of creation, and if it were to
stand as long as creation stands; then it will not be
observed, as my opponent believes, in the new heaven and the
new earth for this present world order shall perish. 2 Peter
   3:10-13
5. But the important thing is where is it bound as a memorial of
creation, or otherwise, in the new covenant?
   A. Where is it commanded by God’s Son through whom He has
spoken to us today? Hebrews 1:1-2
   B. Where is it to be found in the “all truth” into which the
      apostles were guided by the Holy Spirit? John 14:26;
      15:26; 16:13

Chart #48 Did Abraham Keep the Sabbath? Genesis 26:5

Argument: 1. Abraham kept God's commandments...
          2. So Abraham kept God's Sabbath.
          3. Therefore, we are to keep the Sabbath.

But: 1. Abraham kept God's commandments.
     2. Abraham kept the animal sacrifices. Genesis 12:7
     3. Therefore, we are to keep animal sacrifices.

Again: 1. Abraham kept God's commandments. Genesis 26:5
       2. Abraham offered his son on Mt. Moriah.
       3. Therefore, we are to offer our sons on Mt. Moriah.

What proves to much proves nothings!!

My opponent assumes something which he cannot prove!!

To say that Abraham kept the Sabbath is an assumption pure and simple.
