Proposition for discussion:

"All those truly engrafted into Christ will certainly grow spiritually and continue in the doctrine of Christ and good works in this age, and will obtain eternal life in the age to come."

Affirm: Jon Zens
Deny: Howard See

Clarifying the Issue: #1.

I AM NOT DENYING:

  1. I am not denying God's wisdom.
  2. I am not denying God's knowledge.
  3. I am not denying God's foreknowledge.
  4. I am not denying that God saves whom He will.
  5. I am not denying God's power to cause whatsoever he may purpose to come to pass.
  6. I am not denying that God purposed, predestinated that certain things would come to pass that His will might be fulfilled.
  7. I am not denying that God did show His power in various ways in times past.
  8. I am not denying that God has used means and influences upon man to accomplish His purposes.
  9. I am not denying that God has an elect or chosen people.
  10. I am not denying God's Sovereign Grace.

Clarifying the Issue: #2.

WHAT I AM DENYING:

  1. That the Scriptures teach that God so willed to so irresistibly influence specific individuals so that they have no choice but to continue to grow spiritually, and to continue in the doctrine of Christ and good works.
  2. That the Scriptures teach that all who have been truly engrafted into Christ either were or would be so irresistibly influenced that they continued to grow spiritually, or continued in the doctrine of Christ and good works, and so that they could not fail to obtain eternal life in the age to come.
