Chart #36 The Conversion of the Philippian Jailor.
Acts 16:25-34
1. Paul and Silas prayed and sang at midnight in Jail –
verse 25.
2. There was a great earthquake – verse 26.
3. The doors of prison were opened – verse 26.
4. Thinking the prisoners has escaped, the jailor was about
to take his own life – verse 27.
5. Paul called to him, “do thyself no harm.” – verse 28.
6. The Jailor asked, “Sirs what must I do to be saved?” –
verse 30.
7. The Jailor being an unbeliever was told, “believe on the
Lord Jesus Christ and thou shalt be saved.” – verse 31.
8. They “spake unto him the word of the Lord” that he might
believe – verse 32; Romans 10:17.
9. The Jailor was baptized the same hour of the night –
verse 33.
Note:
1. Like every other case of conversion, the Jailor Heard,
Believed; and was Baptized.
2. Faith was produced by the Word spoken to him. Romans
10:17
3. Believers are given power To Become Sons of God. John
1:11-12. The Jailor was no different.
4. Like all others the Jailor was purified in obeying the
truth. 1 Peter 1:22-23
Note Again:
1. The Jailor heard the Word of the Lord. Verse 32; But the
Word of the Lord says:
(a) “he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved.”
Mark 16:16
(b) “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name
of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins and ye
shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” Acts
2:38.
(c) “Arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins,
calling on the name of the Lord.” Acts 22:16
2. Paul, who told the Jailor to believe, has taught:
(a) We are Baptized into Christ. Galatians 3:27
(b) We are Baptized into the body. 1 Corinthians 12:13
(c) We are Baptized into the death of Christ. Romans 6:3
(d) We are Buried by Baptism into death. Colossians 2:12
Note Again:
1. The Jailor wanted to know what to do To Be Saved.
(a) He was interested in doing what was essential, not
what was nonessential.
2. Questions:
(a) Do you believe that Paul and Silas would have gone
out at mid-night to attend to a non-essential,
unnecessary things?
(b) Did you ever hear of a Baptist preacher going out at
mid-night to baptize a man?
