One Religion is Not as Good as Another

We have shown that man often thinks that God is like man. (Psalm 50:21) For example, man thinks that one religion is as good as another, so he thinks that God feels that way. The Bible, however, does not so teach. Indeed Jesus said, "Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be rooted up. Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch." (Matthew 15:13-14) Jesus had earlier said, "This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men." (Matthew 14:8-9) They were making the commandment of God of none effect by their traditions, verse 6.

Again Jesus said, "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity." (Matthew 7:21-23)

Jesus testified "upon this rock I will build my church." (Matthew 16:18) Christ purchased the church with His blood, shed in His death on the cross. (Acts 20:28) Christ is said to be the head over all things to the church, which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all." (Ephesians 1:22-23) See also Colossians 1:18. But the Scriptures teach that there is "ONE BODY". (Ephesians 4:4) Since, however, the body and the church are the same thing, and there is only "one body", therefore, of necessity we conclude that Christ is the head of "one church". The Apostle Paul teaching that "For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ…But now are they many members, yet one body." (1 Corinthians 12:12-20. Speaking of the different local churches or assemblies of the saints, who make up the one body or church, Paul said, "The churches of Christ salute you." (Romans 16:16)
