Not Preaching on Issues

[After the division the question of authority for the missionary 
society and instrumental music in the 1800s, preachers] preached 
sermons against the United Missionary Society and mechanical 
instrumental music.

1. Slacked up preaching on the missionary society and 
   brethren began to arrange for the organization of church 
   universal.
2. Slacked up preaching on mechanical instrumental music, 
   churches have begun to put in the instrument.
3. Slacked up preaching on Sin.
4. Many churches are saturated with worldliness.
5. Bro. Howard, the elders, and I have been through the 
   time when the cry was made – preach a positive gospel.  
   Not a negative Gospel.
6. Just get the heart right and every thing will be
   alright.
7. Just understand how much God loves you, and that Christ 
   died for you.
8. A person has to have their heart right but regardless of 
   how much we want to do what is right.  Unless we 
   understand what is sinful, we may do that very thing.
   a. Isaiah 59:1-2 “ Behold, the LORD'S hand is not 
      shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear 
      heavy, that it cannot hear: 2 But your iniquities have 
      separated between you and your God, and your sins 
      have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.”
9. There are those today who do not realize what sin is in 
   some instances, or the seriousness of it.
10. Bro. Jason made reference to the way people have 
    redefined terms.
11. Let me illustrate. Galatians 5:19f; Ephesians 5:3-7; 
    Colossians 3:5-10.
12. Many don’t realize the seriousness of sin (Read Isaiah 
    59:1-2 (above)).
13. Today: To many sexual perversions is simply an 
    alternate lifestyle, Gay Bishop
14. People refer to young people as becoming sexually 
    active when in reality they become guilty of 
    fornication.
15. People talk of their “live in” boyfriend or girlfriend. 
    (shacking up)
16. Or they speak of their significant others.
