Lest We Should Hinder the Gospel of Christ
Text: 1 Corinthians 9:12
I. Shows the Importance of the Gospel of Christ.
A. Gospel is God’s power to save.

B. Gospel is the sword of the Spirit.

C. Gospel produces the New Birth. 1 Peter 1:22-23
D. Our text shows that the Gospel can be hindered.
II. The Gospel of Christ and Its Influence for good in the
hearts and lives of individuals must not be hindered.
A. It is better to give up meat than hinder the gospel.
1. 1 Corinthians 8:13
2. Romans 14:15, 20-21
B. It is better to suffer wrong than go to law one with
another and hamper the gospel. 1 Corinthians 6:1, 5-7
C. Christ condemned the Lawyers, scribe, and Pharisees for
obstructing the Lord’s work.

D. It would be better for one to have a millstone hanged
about his neck and be drowned in the sea than to offend
one of the little ones. Matthew 18:6
E. It is a fearful thing to put a stumbling block in a
brother’s way.
F. Hindering the gospel is such an awful thing that Elymas
was struck blind because he sought to turn the proconsul
from the faith. Acts 13:8
III. Things That Hinder the Gospel:
A. Apostasy of Christians.
1. Scriptures:
a. 2 Peter 2:20-22
b. Matthew 5:13
2. It preaches the message – “There is nothing to it.”
3. This:
a. Hinders the Gospel in our own lives.
b. Eliminates teaching others.
c. Wield an influence for evil against the influence
of the gospel.
B. Lukewarmness. Revelation 3:15-16
C. Worldliness. James 4:4
D. Those who fail to assemble. Hebrews 10:24-25
E. Those who fail to give as they are prospered.
1. 1 Corinthians 16:1-2
2. 2 Corinthians 9:6-7
F. Those who fail to participate in the work of the Lord.
G. Ineffective Leadership.
H. Compromisers. 2 John 9-11
I. Promoters of factions and divisions. Romans 16:17
J. Those who add Human Inventions.
1. Mechanical music
2. Human societies, etc.
K. Those who make the Lord’s church a denomination.
IV. The consequence of hindering the gospel
A. In reality, become enemies of the Cross of Christ.
