“I Am Jehovah Your God”
Text: Leviticus 11:44
Introduction:
I. There are a lot of people today who do not believe
that there is a God.
II. This goes against many plain passages in the Bible
which there is a God.
III. Our text is one of these passages.
IV. This morning, I would like for us to see that there is
a God and what should be our response.
Body:
I. There is a God.
A. Secular Humanism – read parts of article by Gene
Frost in Gospel Anchor Vol. 7, No. 3 p. 7-11
B. Evidences that there is a God.
1. Read parts of Reason & Revelation Vol. 2, No. 5
2. If the earth has been in existence as long as the
evolution has to have it in existence, the
population of man would be more than the known
universe can hold.
3. Which evolved first: flowers or bees.
4. Evidence of design.
5. The Bible
6. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead.
C. Thus, there is ample evidence for our belief in God.
II. The response that this should to cause in us. (The same
response as in our text)
A. We ought to sanctify ourselves.
1. Definition of the “sanctify:
a. Wilson’s Old Testament Word Studies – to be
holy, sacred…The meaning usually given to this
word is implied than included in the proper
meaning. It is used of being set apart,
appointed to any office or work.
b. Vine’s – “Sanctification is used of (a)
separation to God (b) the course of life
befitting those so separated…Sanctification is
also in the New Testament of the separation of
the believer from evil things and ways.”
2. How do we sanctify ourselves?
a. John 17:17, 19
b. 1 Corinthians 6:11, compare with Ephesians
5:26; Acts 18:8
3. Once we have obeyed the gospel and thus been
sanctified, what should we do?
B. Positive – be holy.
1. Definition:
a. Wilson’s Old Testament Word studies – to be
pure, clean; to be holy, sacred.
b. Vine’s – fundamentally signifies separated
(among the Greeks, dedicated to the gods) and
hence, in Scripture in its moral and spiritual
significance, separation from sin and
therefore consecrated to God, sacred… (b) it
is used of men and things in so far as they
are devoted to God…believers are called to
sanctify themselves, cleansing themselves from
all defilement, forsaking sin, living a holy
manner of life…It is characteristically
godlikeness (Hastings’ Bible Dictionary)
2. Romans 12:1-2
3. Ephesians 1:4
C. Negative – Not defile ourselves.
1. The context of our text.
2. 2 Peter 2:20 – pollutions-defilements
3. Romans 12:1-2 – Same idea.
4. Revelation 3:4
5. Revelation 21:27
