E. Not a form or likeness of anything.
F. A miraculous reception – conferring miraculous power.
2. Water Baptism – Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 2:38
A. A command – Not a promise.
B. An act of obedience – Not a gift received.
C. Administered by man – Not direct from Heaven.
D. In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
E. A likeness or form of the death, burial, and resurrection.
F. A permanent ordinance – Not a provisional power.

Chart #8 One Baptism – The Rule of Elimination – Ephesians 4:4-6
1. Paul said that there is one baptism. Ephesians 4:5
2. The baptism of the great commission (immersion in water) was
binding until the end of the world. Matthew 28:19-20
3. If the baptism of the great commission is water baptism, then
Holy Spirit baptism is eliminated.
4. If Holy Spirit baptism is in force and general, water baptism
is eliminated.

Chart #9 Spiritual Gifts Were Limited in the Time of Their Operation
– Ephesians 4:12-15.
1. The miraculously endowed teachers and gifts were to last “till”.
A. The word “till” marks duration of time.
B. “Up or down to (a specified time)…up to the time when; until.”
Webster’s New Collegiate Dictionary p. 889
2. “Till we all come in the unity of the faith.” Verse 13.
A. Does not refer to all seeing and understanding alike.
B. But rather to the complete revelation of the faith for which
we are to “Earnestly contend.” Jude 3; 1 Corinthians 16:13;
2 Corinthians 13:5.
C. It is the “Faith of the Gospel.” Philippians 1:27
D. The miraculously – endowed teachers and “gifts” were to last
“till” the “part” of the faith not then revealed or that had
only been taught orally would be given and the faith not then
revealed or that had only been taught orally would be given
and united with the “part” already written. 2 Thessalonians 2:15;
Ephesians 3:2-5.
3. “Till we all come in unity…of the knowledge of the Son of God.”
Verse 13
A. This again refers to the time when all “knowledge” which would
ever be given from the Son of God would be revealed.
B. The time of the completion of New Testament revelation.
4. “Unto a perfect man.” Verse 13
A. The church then was in its infancy.
B. When the New Testament was completed and confirmed, the church
had matured, or become full-grown (perfect).
C. The complete revelation of God’s will could make the man of God
perfect. 1 Timothy 3:16

5. The time of their operation was fulfilled by the time the last Apostle
died.
A. Man had received all truth – A complete or “perfect” revelation.
B. As revelation increased – miracles decreased.
C. When the last Apostle died, and all died on whom they had laid their
hands, these gifts ceased.
6. The message which was first in the inspired men, is now in the inspired
book. John 20:30-31
7. Everything began in miracle, but is perpetuated by the non-miraculous.
