Chart # 2 What I Am Not Affirming.
- I am not affirming that no one ever received Holy Spirit Baptism.
- I am not affirming that no one ever spoke in unlearned tongues or
languages by the power of God
- I am not affirming that God’s power is limited.
- I am not affirming that ecstatic sounds are not being uttered by some
which they suppose to be like the tongues spoken by the apostles on the day
of Pentecost
- I am not affirming that Christians do not receive the Holy Spirit today.
Chart # 3 What I Am Affirming.
- I am affirming that some in the first century received Holy Spirit
baptism.
- I am affirming that some in the first century spoke in languages that they
had not studied and that by the power of God.
- I am affirming that obedient believers receive the "Gift of the Holy
Spirit" today.
- I am affirming, however, that no one today receives Holy Spirit baptism.
- I am affirming that no one today is speaking in languages which they have
not studied by the power of God, that such supernatural gifts ceased with
the close of the Apostolic Age.
- I am affirming that the baptism of the Holy Spirit and the speaking of
tongues, by the power of God, ceased by the end of the Apostolic Age.
Chart #4 What Is the Issue Between Us Tonight
- The issue is not a question of God’s power.
- The issue is not a question of whether Holy Spirit baptism was promised to
some.
- The issue is not did the Apostles and Cornelius and his household receive
Holy Spirit baptism.
- The issue is not do believer today receive the Holy Spirit.
The Issue of Difference Between Us Tonight Is:
- Are believers today baptized with the Holy Spirit as the Apostles were on
Pentecost?
- Are believers today speaking in languages which they have not studied by
the power of God?
Chart #5 It Will Do My Opponent No Good:
- To produce passages concerning the Apostles and Cornelius being baptized
with the Holy Spirit.
- To produce passages which deal with gifts of the Spirit received by the
laying on of the Apostles hands.
- To produce passages which refer to the general non-miraculous indwelling
of the Holy Spirit which has been promised to all Christians.
What My Opponent Must Do to Disprove My Affirmative:
- Produce a passage which teaches that every Christian will be baptized with
the Holy Spirit, or,
- Show that the scriptures teach that every Christian mentioned in the New
Testament was baptized with the Holy Spirit.
This He Cannot Do!!
