Is the Guilt of Adam's Sin Imputed to All Babies???

  1. The son shall not bear the iniquity of the father. Ezekiel 18:20
  2. God made man upright. Ecclesiastes 7:29
  3. God is the father of our spirits. Hebrews 12:9
  4. God "formeth the spirit of man within him." Zechariah 12:1
  5. "The spirit shall return unto God who gave it." Ecclesiastes 12:7
  6. Man is the offspring of God. Acts 17:29
  7. Man must be converted and become as little children to enter the kingdom of heaven. Matthew 18:3
  8. God said the King of Tyrus "wast perfect in thy ways from the day thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee." Ezekiel 28:12, 15
  9. The Bible does not speak of "inherited sin."
    a. "Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law." 1 John 3:4
        (1) Babies nave not transgressed God's law.
        (2) Therefore, babies could not be guilty of sin before birth.
    b. Sin is the result of lust and enticement James 1:13-15
         (1) Babies do not have lust nor enticement before birth.
         (2) Therefore babies are not born sinful.
Chart #83 Inherited Depravity
Defined: “They (Adam and Eve, H. S.) being the root of all 
mankind, the guilt of this sin was imputed, and the same death 
in sin and corrupted nature conveyed, to all their posterity, 
descending from them by ordinary generation.  From this original 
corruption, whereby we are utterly indisposed, disabled, and 
made opposite to all good, and wholly inclined to all evil, do 
proceed all actual transgressions.”  The Constitution of the 
Presbyterian Church of the United States of America. Confession 
of Faith, Chapter 6, Sections 3 and 4.
  I. One cannot become worse than wholly defiled in all the 
     faculties of soul and body – But this is one’s 
     condition at birth according to My Opponent’s position 
     on Depravity.
     1. But Paul told Timothy that “evil men and seducers 
        shall wax worse and worse.” 2 Timothy 3:13
     2. How can they wax worse and worse than being wholly 
        defiled in all the faculties of soul and body?
 II. My opponent’s position would have us to believe that 
     God was glorified by the corruption of creature man.
     1. Genesis 6:5-6
     2. Did God grieve on account of His own glorification?
     3. Would God grieve over that which He immutably 
        willed to come to pass.
III. It is not possible by the very nature of sin, that sin 
     can be transmitted from parent to child.
     1. 1 John 3:4 – “Sin is the transgression of the law.”
     2. 1 John 5:17 – “All unrighteousness is sin.”
     3. Romans 14:23 – “Whatsoever is not of faith is sin.”
     4. James 4:17 – “To him that knoweth to do good, and 
        doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
     5. Sin, therefore, necessarily involves the action of 
        the individual.
     6. The infant is not guilty of sin, since the infant 
        has not been guilty of the conditions of sin.
