Chart #26
A Look at the Sheep
- Verse 27 shows that the sheep Jesus is talking about are those that hear
his voice and follow him. Thus conditional salvation.
- What made the sheep sheep and the goats goats? Matthew
25:31-46 Thus conditional salvation.
- Isaiah 53:6 - "All we like sheep have gone astray." The
Jews were children of God, "sheep", but were lost, "gone
astray." There is no proof that the word "sheep" always
and in all places means saved people.
- Matthew 10:5-7 - "These twelve Jesus sent forth...saying...but go
rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. And as ye go, preach,
saying, the kingdom of heaven at hand."
- Matthew 10:16 - "Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of
wolves." Jesus sent forth twelve as sheep. Therefore Judas
was called a sheep. But Judas "lost his first estate and by
transgression fell and went to his own place." Jesus said Judas
become the "son of perdition." John 17:12
- Acts 20:28-30 - Wolves will enter not sparing the flock. Thus, those
who have been sheep, those for whom Christ died, may be lost.
Chart #27 Does the World For Which Jesus Died Refer Only to the Elect?
- 1 John 2:2 - "And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for
ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world."
- John 3:16 - "For God so loved the world..."
a. If the world for which God gave His son means only the elect,
then this passage says God gave His son for the elect that whosoever
of them (the elect) would believe should not perish; the rest of
the elect would perish, hence some of the elect would be lost and my
opponent does not believe a word of it.
- 1 John 5:19 - "And we know that we are of God, and the whole world
lieth in wickedness."
- John 17:16 - "They are not of the world, even as I am not of the
world"
a. According to my opponents position the disciples and even Jesus were
not of the elect.
- John 17:9 - "I pray not for the world."
a. Does this mean that He did not pray for the elect?
- John 15:18 - "If the world hate you, ye know that it hated
me before it hated you."
a. Was this the elect hating the disciples and Jesus?
- 1 Corinthians 11:32 - "That we should not be condemned with the
world."
a. My opponent thinks it means condemned with the elect.
- James 4:4 - "Whosoever therefore will be a friend with the world
is the enemy of God."
a. My opponent thinks one is an enemy of God if he is a friend of the
elect.
Since the word "world" does not mean the "elect" only,
then Christ died for all mankind. Hebrews 2:9 - "That He by the
grace of God should taste death for every man."
Chart #28 My Opponent Charges Me With Being a Campbellite.
But I challenge him to:
- Name one thing that I was taught,
- Or one thing that I believe,
- Or a single thing that I did, in becoming a Christian,
- Or one thing that I now believe, teach, or practice, that originated while
Alexander Campbell lived.
Will my opponent be honorable enough to withdraw his false charge which
blasphemes the name of my Lord?
Chart #29 Is It Irresistible?
- 2 Timothy 2:20-21 - Purge himself.
- Joshua 24:15-44 - Choose you.
- Acts 13:46 - Judge yourselves unworthy.
- John 5:40 - Ye will not come unto me.
- Romans 10:21 - God called disobedient, they refused.
- Matthew 23:37 - Jesus - I would - ye wouldn't.
- Isaiah 66:3 - Chosen their own ways.
- Isaiah 65:12 - Chose wherein I delight not.
- Psalm 119:30 - I have chosen - way of truth.
- Proverbs 1:28-31 - did not choose.
