The Blood of Jesus Christ
Introduction:
I. In the past, preachers of the Lord’s church have been
accused of preaching a bloodless gospel.
A. Denominational preachers have said that we do not
place the proper emphasis on the sacrificial blood
of our Savior.
B. This is not true!!
II. Our study tonight will do the following:
A. It will vindicate us from this charge and correct
this misrepresentation.
B. It will set forth the importance of the blood of
Christ.
III. To set forth the importance of the blood of Christ,
let us notice that it cannot be separated from the
following things.
Body:
I. One cannot separate the blood from the New Testament
of Christ.
A. Both the Old and New Testaments were dedicated with
blood. Hebrews 9:11-26
B. There is a distinction between the blood of each.
1. Hebrews 10:1-4
2. Ephesians 1:7
C. We can see a big difference between the testaments.
Hebrews 8:6-13
D. A failure to distinguish between the Old and New
Testaments is to deny His blood and put it on an
equal footing with animal blood sacrifices.
E. To dip back into the Old Testament for practices or
services today is to deny the power of Christ’s
blood.
II. One cannot separate the blood from the church.
A. Notice if you will the purchase price paid for the
church.
1. Acts 20:28
2. Ephesians 5:28
3. Ephesians 2:14-16
B. Those in the religious world today that would teach
us that the church is non-essential deny the blood
of Christ.
III. One cannot separate the blood from the Lord’s Supper.
A. The student of the Bible finds that the blood and
the Lord’s Supper is inseparable.
B. The Lord’s Supper shows forth the death of Christ
where the blood was shed. 1 Corinthians 11:26
C. The apostle tells us that the Lord’s Supper is a
communion (sharing) with the body and the blood.
D. Now, notice, the frequency of the observance of the
Lord’s Supper in the early church. Acts 20:7
E. Now consider the following if you will:
1. The Lord’s Supper shows forth the death of
Christ where the blood was shed.
2. The apostle states that the observance of the
Lord’s Supper is the sharing in the blood of
Christ.
3. Christians under the command of the apostles
observed the Lord’s Supper every first day of
the week.
4. To do any less today is to deny the communion
with Christ’s blood.
IV. One cannot separate the blood from baptism.
A. The Scriptures reveal that the blood and Christ’s
death are inseparable for it was in His death that
His blood was shed. John 19:34
B. The blood and death were for the same purpose.
1. 1 Corinthians 15:1-6
2. Ephesians 1:7
C. Baptism is into His death where the blood was shed.
Romans 6:3-6
D. By this we are able to see the importance of
Peter’s statement in 1 Peter 3:21.
E. Compare Matthew 26:28 and Acts 2:38.
F. Anyone can see then that the religionist of today
that deny that baptism is essential to the
salvation of man are, in effect, denying the blood
of Christ.
V. One cannot separate the blood from the law of
restoration.
A. This is what we might call God’s second law of
pardon. It deals with the pardon of God’s
children, not the alien sinner.
1. 1 John 1:7-9
2. Acts 8:22
B. These passages teach us that when a child of God
sins, he is to:
1. Repent
2. Own up to our sins
3. Be willing to pray, confessing the sin
4. That the blood of Christ will cleanse us from
that sin.
C. The advocates of eternal security or “once saved,
always saved” theory deny the blood of Christ
because they say, “that once one is born again, he
is incapable of sinning.”
D. Thus denying the blood in God’s second law of
pardon.
Conclusion:
I. We can’t separate the blood of Christ from any New
Testament command or work anymore than we can
eliminate Christ.
II. If you are not a Christian, will you not consider the
words of the oft-sung song:
“Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There’s power in the blood.
Would you over evil a victory win?
There’s wonderful power in the blood.”
III. Will you acknowledge the power of the blood by obeying
Him?
